80+ organisations unite for manufacturing
Europe’s industrial future is at a turning point. More than 80 organisations join forces with EFFRA to call for a “Made in Europe” Manufacturing Initiative. The message is clear: Europe must act now to strengthen its manufacturing base and remain globally competitive.
A joint call from across Europe
A coalition of over 80 organisations from industry, research, and academia supports this initiative. Together with EFFRA, they call for a coordinated European approach to manufacturing.
The timing is critical. Europe faces growing global competition, geopolitical uncertainty, and increasing dependencies in key technologies and value chains.
Manufacturing under pressure
Manufacturing remains a cornerstone of Europe’s economy. It supports millions of jobs, drives innovation, and underpins strategic autonomy.
At the same time, Europe struggles to scale innovation and retain industrial capacity. Competing with large-scale strategies in other regions is becoming more difficult.
Five priorities for the future
The joint paper outlines five priorities for 2028–2034: download the full report
- Accelerating innovation and industrial scale-up by strengthening the path from research to large-scale production
- Strengthening strategic autonomy and resilience by reducing dependencies and securing critical technologies and value chains
- Advancing circular and climate-neutral production through resource efficiency, decarbonisation, and new business models
- Leading in digitalisation, automation, and industrial AI by deploying trusted data, smart systems, and advanced robotics
- Investing in skills and workforce transformation to support lifelong learning and human-centric technology adoption
A call for coordinated action
The coalition calls on European policymakers to launch a large-scale “Made in Europe” initiative. This initiative should be embedded in key EU instruments such as Framework Programme 10 and the European Competitiveness Fund.
The goal is to better align research, innovation, and industrial deployment. This ensures that Europe not only develops technologies but also manufactures them at scale.
Conclusion
Europe has strong manufacturing assets but faces increasing pressure. A coordinated initiative can help scale innovation and strengthen industrial capacity. Acting now is essential to secure a competitive and resilient future.
