VVGT study evening – 'Spectrometry'

One of the requirements for a good production process is controlling the composition of the casting alloys. In the course of this study evening, four experts will explain four different analysis techniques, discussing operating principles, possibilities and limitations: Spark-OES, GD-OES, ICP-OES and EDXRF.

In the first part of the evening, we provide two presentations: first, A. Vermeiren from Sysmex Belgium will talk about 'spark optical emission spectrometry’ (Spark-OES), a technique for performing elemental analyses with a metal spectrometer. Afterward, R. Meihsner from Spectruma Analytik will delve deeper into the technique of ‘glow-discharge optical emission spectrometry' (GD-OES), which combines a glow discharge (GD) with an optical emission spectrometer (OES), enabling versatile analyses in many applications, for both depth profiling with nm resolution and bulk composition determination.

After the break will be the turn of P. Ivanov from SPECTRO Analytical Instruments for a lecture on ICP-OES ('inductive coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry), with which the composition and concentration of elements in a liquid can be determined using plasma and a spectrometer. Finally, M. Van Driessche from Sysmex Belgium will conclude with a presentation on EDXRF ('energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence'), a technology for analysing groups of elements simultaneously, enabling rapid identification and quantification with little or no sample preparation.

Please note: the presentations will be held in English.
