Understand, analyse and simulate before you invest
On 12 February 2026, Sirris organised the “Meet the AMRs” workshop in Genk. During this interactive session, manufacturing companies discovered how AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) and AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots) can improve the efficiency, safety and ergonomics of their internal logistics.
Understand before you invest
The morning focused on how mobile robots work, their applications and their control systems. We addressed key questions such as:
- When should you choose a classic AGV system?
- When does a flexible AMR offer real added value?
We analysed the impact of several key parameters on logistics performance:
- Speed
- Battery capacity
- Fleet size
- Layout configuration
During the hands-on lab session, participants observed different types of robots in action. They experienced how navigation and fleet control work in practice.
From idea to concrete project
One key message stood out: do not automate waste. Start by analysing your internal logistics flows. Map your transport movements in detail. Based on this analysis, you can define relevant use cases and make an initial estimate of the return on investment (ROI).
The potential benefits are clear:
- Fewer unnecessary movements
- Fewer errors
- Increased safety
- Improved ergonomics
On the cost side, several elements require careful evaluation:
- Technology
- Integration
- Layout adaptations
- Required training
Start with a clearly defined project with a high chance of success. Then scale up step by step. Choose the right type of robot. Analyse your product carriers. Define process requirements. Check whether your environment is ready: floor conditions, passages, Wi-Fi coverage and safety.
Involve operators from the start. Their engagement is a key success factor.
Simulate before you decide
With our AGVsim simulation tool, you can compare different scenarios before making an investment decision.
- What is the impact of adding an extra robot?
What happens if you change the route?
How does a different battery strategy affect performance?
These “what-if” analyses provide reliable insights. They help you make informed decisions and reduce investment risks.
Ready to start an AGV or AMR project?
Sirris supports companies from the initial analysis to concept validation. Together, we define a structured roadmap and simulate your specific situation. This gives you a clear view of the required number of vehicles and the most suitable deployment strategy.
