Nicolás is project leader at the EluciDATA Lab by Sirris, where he sets up, coordinates and/or contributes to different kinds of projects on data and AI, ranging from small innovation projects with individual companies, to large international industry-driven R&D projects, over regional knowledge transfer and dissemination initiatives. His current projects focus on combining data from wearables and environmental sensors to extract behaviour information, support users in the field, etc, and on exploiting data from products in the field to enhance these products with new features, offer new services, etc. Next to these topics, his other interests cover areas such as web technologies, usable technology and security.
Before joining Sirris in 2007, Nicolás was a post-doctoral teaching assistant at the Computer Science department of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), where his research focused on cryptography and computer security, in particular, on reducing the trust requirements in fair exchange (i.e. e-commerce) protocols.
