Fascinated by intellectual property (IP) and its use in innovation processes and its application in products and services, Katrien provides support to businesses and Sirris teams in all aspects related to this subject matter.
On the one hand, this includes support in identifying know-how that can be protected (including searches) and applying for IP rights, and on the other hand, risk assessment, such as freedom-to-operate and enforcement of IP rights. Katrien is also a point of contact for issues relating to IP-asset management and the establishment of an IP strategy, valuation of IP, licences, technology transfer, partnership contracts and other agreements. This always done in accordance with and driven by the existing or projected innovation and/or business strategy.
Katrien obtained a master’s degree in physical-organic chemistry and has a PhD in photochemistry and spectroscopy from the University of Leuven. After her studies, she gained extensive experience in intellectual property and its exploitation, innovation processes and the legal aspects of knowledge and technology transfer with Imec and Lhoist, before joining Sirris.
