An inventory of ecological technologies

For 8 years the World Intellectual Property Organisation has been offering a tool for facilitating patent information searches related to environmentally friendly technologies.

In 2010, the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation) put a free tool online for patent searches related to ecology and green technologies.

Some eight years later, while the climate emergency is no longer in doubt, it is worth remembering the existence of this tool which can support engineers and developers in finalising products and technologies or help companies search for potential partners for R&D or for commercial exploitation.

Called the IPC Green Inventory, it has some 200 topics (energy production and conservation, transportation, waste, agriculture and forestry, nuclear energy, others (carbon tax management, home working, etc.) and subtopics from a list drawn up by the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It is based on the international patent classification system and refers, with hyperlinks, to patent applications of the WIPO PatentScope database.
