Bring your own data innovation challenge!

Data science can be very valuable to innovate within several domains, also for SMEs. The EluciDATA mastercourse provides pragmatic and industry-oriented sessions on data-driven innovation. During a special interactive, hands-on session on 18 September, participants will be guided in identifying the potential of solving a particular business challenge in a data-driven way and specifying the data innovation opportunities for their particular business context.

While today's attention mainly goes to examples by major Internet companies (e.g. Google, Amazon, Facebook), data science can also be very valuable to innovate within other industrial domains as well as within SMEs. It enables one to derive new insights from experimental data, to profile products and customers, to optimise production processes, to predict failure of machines.

The EluciDATA mastercourse provides pragmatic and industry-oriented sessions on data-driven innovation. This mastercourse is composed of several independent sessions, in order to accommodate for the different needs and viewpoints of attendees with different backgrounds.

Special session: ‘Bring your own data innovation challenge’ workshop

This hands-on workshop is complementary to the mastercourse session on ‘The art of formulating a data science task’ within manufacturing. Companies are invited to bring a well-described business challenge that they want to tackle via data innovation and - if applicable - a description of the data that they currently gather. The goal of this workshop is to support the participants in identifying the potential of solving this challenge in a data-driven way and specifying the data innovation opportunities for their particular business context. At the end of the session, participants will have :

  • validated the feasibility of addressing their business challenge via the envisioned data innovation
  • formulated their business challenge as the most appropriate data science task
  • identified the most relevant first steps to take in the data science workflow
  • outlined possible solution strategies that are tailored to their business challenge and context (e.g. in terms of what data is available, existing technological constraints, …)

During the first part of the session, all participants will be requested to pitch their business challenges, followed by an interactive discussion on the data innovation potential. The second part is hands-on, during which each company will be coached to translate this business problem in a data science task and to outline possible solution strategies.

This session will be focusing on manufacturing.
