The wide potential of wet chemical nanocoatings

In order to improve or to add new properties to an object, we can easily use wet chemical coatings. Starting from liquid precursors that are reacting with each other, it is possible to produce multiple functions in one coating. The obtained materials are so called organic-inorganic hybrid composites.

The components of the hybrids are inorganic nanoparticles and/or sol-gel networks, in interaction with an organic polymer. The organic polymers allow flexibility and good processability, while the inorganic components add mechanical and thermal stability to the end material. Both phases can include a number of interesting functions, such as:

  • Hydrophobicity
  • Hydrophilicity
  • Chemical resistance
  • Biocompatibility
  • Optical properties
  • Electrical properties

By combining all these different functions, hybrid coatings show great potential for various domains, such as:

  • Energy
  • Automotive
  • Leisure
  • Electronics
