No cobot is the same as the next one

Technifutur and TechnoCampus held a seminar on 29 November covering the future batch of production co-workers in accordance with Industry 4.0: the cobots. Sirris was also present - with our Baxter cobot - and gave the keynote presentation for the lecture programme.

The seminar in Seraing formed part of a series of initiatives aimed at making regional companies more aware and informing them of the technical innovations available in products and production. The event, which attracted around 130 registered participants, was mainly about the application and the advantages derived from cobots on the production floor.

Various relevant questions were answered and misunderstandings were cleared up regarding issues such as the options available, features, reliability, safety, ergonomics, cost-effectiveness, user-friendliness, etc. Of course each cobot has its own features and is either more or less made suitable for specific tasks. This is also why the following seven major cobot manufacturers were invited to introduce these new production assistants at the seminar: Rethink Robotics, ABB, Kuka, Yaskawa, Stäubli, Fanuc and Universal Robots. Phaer (vision systems) and Pilz (safety) also made contributions. Demonstrations were given in the demonstration area by each of the individual manufacturers. It was also the first time that the Yaskawa and Stäubli cobots had been shown in Belgium.

Sirris was present with its own Baxter cobot and also delivered the programme keynote speech titled, ‘Is your next colleague a cobot?’ This introduced those present to the world of cobots, explaining the differences between industrial cobots and providing further information about typical applications, while simultaneously highlighting the strengths and weaknesses.

Would you like to know more about the opportunities presented by cobots and what they could do for your company? On 24 January 2017 Sirris is holding a workshop titled 'Meet the cobots' at its premises in Kortrijk. During this hands-on workshop Sirris will help you find your own answers. We’ll explain to you how to go about it in a structured manner, as well as giving you a number of do’s and don’ts. You will find more information about this in our agenda.
