Nanocoatings in the paint industry

For some years now nanotechnology has been moving more and more into the field of paints. This development is creating a great deal of new opportunities for various sectors.

Tiny amounts of nanoparticles make it possible to considerably improve the properties of surface coatings for an extended application domain. Nanocoatings in the paint industry are able to add properties, such that top coats:

  • are resistant to corrosion, friction or scratches
  • free of maintenance and fogging
  • hydrophilic and hydrophobic
  • provided with anti-biofouling
  • protected against UV radiation
  • electrically conductive
  • ...

Given this range of possibilities, the applications are very diverse and are situated in sectors such as automotive, marine, aerospace, construction, furnishing, decoration, electronics etc.
