Intellectual Property Statistics

Reliable intellectual property statistics are an important tool in understanding trends in policy, business and technology worldwide.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) provides a free online service where users can access statistical data on IP activity worldwide.

The data concerns patents, trademarks, industrial designs and models, and utility models for several countries and organizations (including international registrations) and is supplied by different intellectual property offices.

Most of the indicators cover the period from 1980. For the international systems (PCT, Madrid, Hague), data starts from 2004.

These statistics are an important tool in understanding trends in business and technology worldwide.

This service is intended for professionals, researchers and policymakers involved in intellectual property worldwide.

For example, here in graphic form is data on intellectual property against economic growth for Belgium.
