Getting to know Industry 4.0 at the Sirris Kortrijk open day

In order to make specific technological applications available to industry within the scope of Factories of the Future and Industry 4.0 for example, on 3 March Sirris is opening its eighth office located in Kortrijk. The focus here is on mechanical engineering, mechatronics and assembly. Here's a little peep at what you can expect at the opening (and afterwards)!

With its new office, Sirris will from now on be active in the vicinity of companies in West Flanders. The office is located in the heart of the compact SME network of companies associated with mechatronics, near the expertise centre for industrial automation at UGent Campus Kortrijk and Howest - The Level. It has all the office laboratory space required, including a demonstration area for product automation. On the third of March you will get an idea of what we can do in the demonstration area for helping companies transform their production.

Programme

The afternoon starts with Sirris and Howest, after which there is a panel discussion that focuses on issues for Factories of the Future who specialise in mechatronics and are based in West Flanders. Then two local companies will be talking about their activities and Sirris will give a few words on the plans and layout of the new site. The closing speech is given by Jean de Bethune of POM West Flanders.

Demonstrator

The presentations are followed by a detailed tour through the new infrastructure, including various demonstrations. The demonstration area will be laid out with three different production cells. The first one will show the opportunities available with mobile technologies such as smart glasses in production, which in this case will be order picking. An AGV (automated guided vehicle) takes the selected components to the second cell where a robot demonstrates how collaboration with a human operator works with robot assisted assembly. Finally, the AGV takes the assembled product to the third cell where the operator demonstrates how an operator is supported by technology in his manual tasks and also with quality control.

The afternoon closes on an upbeat note with a networking drink, which promises to be an excellent opportunity to become acquainted with the Sirris experts, as well as making useful business contacts and renewing old acquaintances.
