The ‘Innovatieve Coatings’ cluster is organising an annual event on 1 February to mark its first anniversary. In addition to an overview of what has been happening and what we can expect, various member testimonials will be discussed, plus a keynote speech by Piet Verhoeve (Hangar K).

The Sirris Coating Lab has recently purchased a TQC Scrub Abrasion and Washability Tester to perform scrub abrasion and washability tests on coated materials.

In coating industry, there is an evolution for more sustainable, more efficient and faster technologies. The fourth workshop of the cluster ‘Innovatieve Coatings’, which Sirris is part of, focusses on radiation curing techniques as ultraviolet (UV and UV-LED) curing and electron beam (EB) curing.

In order to meet the needs of today and tomorrow, product developments are heading for ecology, sustainability, higher performance and longer service life. This also applies to coatings. Such innovations cannot come about without thorough testing. With their state-of-the-art testing laboratory, Sirris is meeting industries’ needs.

With the support of Sirris, Cebo looked for an invisible coating to provide restored engine parts of vintage cars with an additional protective layer.

Sirris conducted accelerated aging tests to map the longevity of Veldeman Structure Solutions' PVC-coated fabrics.

Adidas has also learned that coatings offer a solution to everyday problems. The shoe manufacturer has just launched a new sneaker especially for the Oktoberfest in Munich. What’s special about this shoe is not what you see, but what you don’t see.

Traditionally, coatings used in the construction industry are decorative or protective paints for walls and wood work. However, more and more coatings with other functionalities are being developed and used in buildings and applied on building materials. On 21 September, the cluster ‘Innovatieve Coatings’, which Sirris is a part of, organises a workshop and matchmaking event on this theme.

Eurautomat wanted to find an antistatic coating to eliminate electrostatic discharges in its gaming machines, teaming up with Sirris for this purpose.

Coatings can be used to protect materials against the effects of rust, mould or dirt. This is why the Nanex Company, a manufacturer of protective products, is collaborating with the Sirris Smart Coating Lab in using nanotechnology to develop and improve existing product formulations.
