Clamping workpieces ... by gluing them into place

Workholding sometimes requires creative solutions. The American company PGM has developed a way to clamp thin-walled and other bendable products without distorting them.

The holding jig the company developed uses the ‘Blue photon’ technology, in which an adhesive acts as a sort of glue. This binding agent is cured by UV-light. In this way, the product is ‘clamped’ but free of tension. You could compare the curing of the binder to the solidification of candle wax.

Afterwards, it is easy to break loose the workpiece, after which the surface can be quickly cleaned by a steaming process.
