Quick response manufacturing

For more than a decade, Sirris has been considered an expert in QRM (quick response manufacturing). Sirris raises awareness of this strategy in lead time reduction and has helped with QRM implementation at companies in Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia, in close cooperation with the American founder of the method, Rajan Suri. In 2010, we launched the first QRM projects and helped around 35 companies take their first steps towards QRM. Since then, around 500 employees from more than 260 companies have participated in QRM training courses.

Initiatives taken in 2020 include the organisation of various online QRM training courses and QRM Masterclasses.

QRM knowledge gains ground in Belgium

The number of QRM specialists in Flanders is growing each year. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, three rounds of QRM Silver® specialist training courses took place in Flanders in 2020, mainly in person, with some online. On 13 October, eight new QRM Silver specialists received their certificates at a COVID-19-safe awards ceremony at ETAP Lighting International, a manufacturer and supplier of professional lighting solutions based in Malle. QRM founder Rajan Suri attended the event online.

Companies in Wallonia are becoming more and more interested in QRM. Sirris promotes the QRM method by means of various activities, including the first comprehensive training course in Wallonia to become a QRM Silver specialist. Our training course was attended by 18 people from Belgium and abroad and was held online, with an in-person session in September at Design Station in Liège. Nine certified participants (seven of whom are from Belgium) are now QRM Silver Specialists.

QRE in France also organised a training course, partly online. Sirris contributed to this course and provided the “System Dynamics” section, among other aspects.

Since 2019, nine manufacturing employees in Wallonia have been awarded the QRM Silver specialist certificate.

Boost to SME growth based on a combination of digitisation and QRM

Manufacturers need to respond to market developments quickly, and need to be able to offer a wide range of products, which may even be custom-made. The completion of smaller product orders within a short time requires flexibility, with the corresponding costs. The method used to address this challenge significantly determines their competitive advantage. An increase in production speed requires a combination of innovative digital technologies (Industry 4.0) and human-centred process innovation, such as quick response manufacturing (QRM). The new Interreg Euregio Meuse-Rhine (EMR) project has been started to support the transformation of SMEs: QRM 4.0. This project helps SMEs by combining insights and tools from QRM and Industry 4.0, to reform the production process and achieve very short lead times.

The online launch event for this new project took place in a webinar held on 23 April 2020.

Our on-site demonstrator at Diepenbeek shows the combination of Industry 4.0 and human-centred product innovation in practice.
