The use of microfluidic systems, small laboratories for liquids, is on the rise. For example, the well-known PCR test to detect COVID-19 is based on this technology. Such systems are manufactured via injection moulding in a mould. The production of such a mould in steel is traditionally done by machining (EDM).
This webinar will show you how such a mould can be made using femtosecond laser technology. An advantage of the laser is that it does not use micro-milling equipment while it can still remove the material cleanly and precisely, without melting it. The laser is therefore a cost-effective and time-efficient alternative or complementary technique to the more traditional machining or EDM. This allows an initial insert to be made cheaply and quickly.
