Innovation platform provider draws inspiration from European project

CogniStreamer is one of the leading players on the collaborative innovation software market. It provides a software platform and accompanying guidance which are all about taking a systematic approach to innovation. It draws inspiration and is supported by expertise from the ITEA ACCELERATE project launched and implemented with Sirris.

Since 2008, CogniStreamer has been the market leader in the field of collaborative innovation software and associated services, with its customers including a number of major international brands. The platform ensures that a company systematically supports its workers' good ideas, making it possible to manage the innovation process more effectively and efficiently.

The company started out as a web developer, whereby its development of an application for a customer aroused the interest of this customer's customer, setting the ball rolling. CogniStreamer started off by selling a license providing technical support and maintenance, but after some time it added further innovation services. In this way CogniStreamer became a self-sufficient, scalable business ranking among the world's top five in its field, with offices around the world.

Introducing innovation isn't a matter of buying a good tool and then getting started, but is essentially all about having the right conditions, resources and attitude in place to foster a sustainable environment so that you can reap the benefits of this investment. It's mostly about people, and cooperation.

The importance of ecosystems and people

The company continuously invests in next-generation technology. This led it to conclude that it was no longer the software itself that provided the value, but increasingly the innovative ecosystems - communities of people who share knowledge, generate ideas and collaborate to create outstanding products and services. Support from social software technology is vital in this regard. Nowadays, there is a growing need for accelerated innovation, and open ecosystems for innovation are an effective way to achieve this. This has made the human aspect crucial. The software can support the search for experts in this field, but there are also people involved in scouting and acting as intermediaries, with a view to getting a digital dialogue going between the various experts. This all happens in an environment of trust, and the software can help to facilitate this.

Innovation through inspiration

In this regard Director of Innovation, Research & Development Wim Soens realized how difficult it could be to grow as an SME and that public funds and project programs such as ITEA could provide the boost needed to achieve this, as the company had to build up a completely new set of knowledge about semantic technology, social sciences, big data analysis, and algorithm development. Thanks to collaborative projects such as those at ITEA, it was possible to collaborate with national and international centers of excellence and universities to unlock fundamental knowledge. Add to this a well-picked selection of use cases of large and small companies, research centers and universities and you get a very powerful ecosystem, in which all the participants are trying to achieve the same goal, namely accelerated innovation.

Within ITEA, CogniStreamer was involved in the ACCELERATE project, in which all the participants are trying to achieve the same goal, namely accelerated innovation . Wim Soens for one finds all the concepts, use cases and prototypes inspiring. This three-year project ended in 2016.
