Simpler communications between machines thanks to a plug-and-play adapter

adapter, plug-and-play adapter

Communications and data exchange have become crucially important in the wake of the Industry 4.0 revolution. This is often not so obvious between machines because they don’t always work according to the same standards. Scientists at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) have designed a module to make this transition: a plug-and-play adapter.

Without the need for modifications, the adapter deploys a simple method to allow the exchange of production status data. Using a small PC as the interface, various machine or component inputs are very simply stored and exchanged using a standardised method. Security has also been taken into account when exchanging data, this being an important issue concerning equipment digitisation.

The KIT will be presenting the module at the EMO in Hanover at the end of September and the Sirris experts will be in attendance to study such developments in more detail.
